For every challenge we encounter, our zeal to counter the next multiplies. This is what a game teaches us, isn't it?
Yes, every game we play instills in us tremendous energy and enthusiasm. The beauty of the game is such that though we merely watch gameplay, we feel the hot blood rush until our favorite team wins the match.
1. Builds bond with family & friends:
Games help to build that special connection with family and friends as it helps to strike a fun-filled conversation, teaches to appreciate each other's expertise of the game, and most important is celebrating each other's win. It simply does not matter how big or small or indoor or outdoor game it is what matters the most is the involvement of family and friends while playing a game.
2. Teaches us many life lessons:
Games play a major function in shaping our character and defining us. The roots of discipline, coordination, and acceptance are nurtured when we play games. Games perform a key role in maintaining a balanced environment around us, it is a perfect way to refresh and replenish our creativity that aids in managing stress.
3. Improve the cognitive ability of the brain
We all know by the statistics that different cognitive activities aid in mental training besides brain is a muscle that functions better when it is exercised more it performs better. So a person has to make their brain active most of the time by performing activities that keep the brain in work mode. By incorporating the brain exercises we are helping the brain to get sharpened with cognitive ability that also helps in bringing mindfulness to life. Few Activities that help the brain to function well are
- Building Vocabulary
- Solving Jigsaw Puzzle
- Learning a new skill/ new language
- Teaching a new skill
- Playing card games / logical thinking games
- Listening to Music or Play a music
- Dancing heart out
4. Playing online games:
Nowadays playing games on our favorite gadgets has risen manifold, and the best thing about online gaming is that we can connect with our friends and relatives across the globe while maintaining the same spirit and enthusiasm. When we speak about games one cannot forget the traditional games that are passed from one generation to another like card games. The online gaming platforms have beautifully implemented the age-old games and give the same feel of the deck of cards when we used to physically hold them in our hands.
As a parent, I try to focus on interesting activities for children that help them build their skills and make learning fun. While selecting the kind of games, I always look for games that have logical reasoning or games that are new and possibly enriching too. I recently came across solitaire.org which has a wide range of card games, puzzles, and logical reasoning games.
WORD SEARCH
Firstly I liked the Word search game, where different levels made sure that the vocabulary of a player is built. It also increases the concentration level and helps us to do multi-task.
The timer at the left side keeps your pace up in the game and the sound effects also create an aura to complete the word search soon.
CROSSWORD GAME
We also liked to play the Crossword game, which has features of pausing the game, reloading the crossword as per wish, and also the timekeeper keeps the record of the time. The game guides the players by giving different clues, which is a great feature for beginners to break the hitch for the game. Kids of age 10 and up can try their hands at the game by choosing a new puzzle to solve each day.
SOLITAIRE GAME
The age-old solitaire card game was fun to play in online mode and it gave the complete feel as the cards turned quick enough. The placement of the cards was also a smooth process, whereby a tally point score highlights the current score and the time left to finish the game. The best part is that anytime one can undo a move or load a new game with on click of a button.
My little one enjoyed the maze solver game and the beginner level was easy for her to complete. All the classic games such as tetra blocks, sudoku, chess, Minesweeper, take you back to memory lane and one can enjoy the spirit of gaming with these games.
Game is after all a GAME
Though we play games with a competitive spirit and we push our limits to win the game, we have to remind ourselves that after all a game is a game. One should neither develop hard feelings towards the opponent team. “It's not just about winning or losing but to learn about teamwork, learn about sportsmanship, learn about discipline. The value of working together for a common goal. Have the emphasis on fundamentals, not just games”, says Erik Spoelstra, the renowned American basketball coach.
When we think of online games, if we think of the learning aspect as well then it can be not just an entertainment but also sharpens our brain. When kids engage in online games, these aspects should be considered.
