How to win over Dilemma in life with 1 simple step

Were you in a dilemma to decide to work from home or go to the office? Or

Were you in a dilemma to visit loved ones or stay at home for the safety of both?

Who among us has not been in a dilemma in recent times? We all are in a situation where we want more options for making the best decisions. Dilemma word itself means “A situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives”. From hundreds of options, you have to make the apt choice for yourself and others which varies from shopping, cooking menu, relationships. But why does such a situation arises?

To understand the dilemma let’s have a situation in the poetry manner where Keshvi is in the dilemma when it rains.

Tip tap tip tap...

sound of water has started in a jab.

To the surprise, it's not the municipal tap,

but a sound from Keshvi house roof crack.

Today again rain has loaded her work,

for a moment happy for next it's a jerk.

When it rains dilemma arises,

to enjoy or save the house creases.

If not paid timely attention,

it will turn her house into a mini ocean.

Vessels scattered to fill in a downpour,

now it's her only important chore.

Today, her partner will earn more,

giving people rides in the heavy downpour.

Money made today may last a week;

though today’s task will make him a little weak.

A shower of relief or a drizzle of pain,

Life is a journey of circles insane.

This mystique rain brings many curves,

teaches not to douse any nerve.

In this poem, we have noticed though Keshvi is in the dilemma of being happy or sad when it rains heavily, yet she is sure of one thing.

Now coming to the dilemma in life, have you ever wondered why we are unable to reach decisions, or are we not listening to our inner instinct?

Yes, all answers for such situations are instantly given by our instinct but we lower down such voices and try finding logic in our choice.

We are not listening to inner instinct mainly due to these 3 factors.

Justifying our choice :

We all tend to justify our choice, no matter how small or big the selection is.

For instance, if you choose to buy a particular smartphone, then did you buy it because it was on your budget or it is the latest version of it’s manufacture by your favored company, or did you blindly follow your friend’s advice? For a small thing also you end up giving explanations to those who question your choice and mind you; you also need to stand by your choice and also justify the facts for your choice. There is always reasoning behind each choice you make, be it consciously or unconsciously, but some decisions are taken from heart, taken from instinct. I call such situations as Logical dilemmas, where Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Trust your instinct to the end, though you can render no reason. “

Emotionally correct choice:

And there are times when you want your decision to be practically emotionally correct. Such a situation arises when a Heart vs. Brain conflict starts where you have to make practical decisions and forget emotions and in few cases, though we want to be practical our heart says to think about the emotional loss you are going to face if the decision is taken practically. Here also go with your instinct, trust it and time shall tell whether you emerged as a winner over the dilemma or not. “Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better.” - Sydney J. Harris

Fear of Regret:

I never want to be in a dilemma where I have to choose one and leave behind the other. Yes, we always want to have life error-free and be less of regrets, Or else I would say I would never want regret in my life. Vincent Vog Gogh rightly said, “What would be life if we had no courage to attempt anything”.

Solution for Dilemma:

For me, the dilemma only arises when we want both the choices and never in a circle to make decisions. But that’s not possible. You need to make hundreds of decisions in life. So what would be the solution, for once you choose with instinct stick to it if there is no option of reverting; and if there is a scope of reverting then see to it that there are no damages done. Hence trust your instinct and go with it.

If you have watched the Aiyaar movie, starrer Siddhart Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee where Manoj’s character shares the secret to win over dilemma by flipping the coin in the air and the moment the coin is in the air our inner instinct makes the choice and that is the choice we need to go with.

  3. Oh! we face dilemmas in every walk of like. Some big and some small. But as you said, we need to follow our instinct and take the decision. I believe, a decision is never a right or wrong when taken. We can only work on it and make it right!

  4. That's a very indepth post on dilemma. I know that sometimes we just need to make difficult choices to be out of the dilemma also. But I think this verse expresses it well:
A shower of relief or a drizzle of pain,

Life is a journey of circles insane.

This mystique rain brings many curves,

teaches not to douse any nerve.
