Yoga imbibes balance not only in our thoughts but also towards the world we live in. The nature around us bestows us with positive energy and yoga helps to train our senses to identify this energy. Thus yoga and the environment are interdependent in a way. Yoga takes us a step closer to mother nature, aids in better understanding of little things around us, harvesting our energy towards the betterment of all the living things around us. Where there is a positive flow of thoughts there will be increasing creativity and sensitivity towards the place we live in.
Today we all are vouching towards adopting sustainable techniques to tap the valuable resources and one of the ways is by practicing Green Yoga.
What is Green Yoga:
Green Yoga is the amalgamation of Yoga and natural surroundings. Practicing Yoga within the parameters of greenery and choosing the lifestyle that supports sustainability in life. For example, the use of jute or cotton yoga mats is preferred over plastic yoga mats. People tend to make changes in their lifestyle once they step towards green yoga.
Why we look for sustainability:
- We all are stepping forward in life with mature thoughts and widening our horizons with the knowledge we grasp in day-to-day life.
- If we want our future generations to enjoy nature and the beauty of it then we need to start practicing habits that are higher in sustainability. Stella McCartney wisely quoted “The starting point is not design, the starting point is the sustainability”.
- With many Yogi’s and Yoga Studios following the Green Yoga path all the people practicing under them will also look for environment-friendly products.
- With so many products in the market, it is always good to research the products one is buying, this makes us responsible towards the environment.
How can we be part of Green Yoga:
- Many have benefitted from the practices of Yoga and how the body and mind are calmer than before, these simple steps will make you an ambassador of Green Yoga in the future.
- The selection of products makes a lot of difference in the lifestyle and these small changes will lead to a bigger change in the future.
- Select naturally made products for a Yoga session, such as Yoga Mat, yoga gear, water bottle.
- It also makes the person more responsible for its carbon footprints left behind. Mindful shopping is what co-related to Green Yoga.
- Performing Yoga in the fresh air gives the maximum benefits, due to pandemic this is difficult, choose a place where fresh air flows, surround the place with plants.
- You may feel more connected to nature while performing asanas on nature-friendly yoga mats and in a natural ambiance.
Peace and harmony are embraced in presence of nature and also by practicing Yoga. A human mind is complex and has millions of thoughts running in the subconscious mind, to bring stability in them Green Yoga is the way out. This year's “International Yoga Day” theme is ‘Yoga for Wellness’ which means we need to work on the wellness of self, wellness of mind, wellness of nature to bring balance in the world.
