5 reasons why Maths is important in our life

The moment we step into this world maths becomes an integral part of life. For example when a child is born we immediately start celestial calculations for finding the letter from which the child’s name will begin. Mathematics plays a very critical role in day to day life; at some point or the other we all need to use maths and its formulas in every activity we do. So we can say that maths walk with us till we are there in this world. Unknowingly Maths is part of  life which we cannot ignore and we all need to make partnership with it for running a smooth life.

Beyond this, Maths also helps to craft human behaviour and methodologies to look at things around us. Let us analyze 5 reasons why maths is important in our lives.

Why Maths Important - MeenalSonal

1.    Visualize the things in real world: Learning Maths helps to visualise the entire scenario and progresses child’s thinking ability. For an example if I say to imagine a 460 ft tower, then by the number 460ft you are now visualizing a tall tower that reaches the sky. And by 900 kg cake a picture with a huge cake of multi-layer is formed in our brain. Mapping of numbers with object uplifts the brain wiring.

2.   Proper approach to solve problems: Whenever a problem approaches either we fight or flight, in simpler terms we can either face the problem or run away from it. Learning mathematics help us to face the problem most of the times plus you get a confidence to solve the critical situation in a step by step manner. Problem solving techniques conclaves a logical approach in life too if you are good at mathematics.

3.   Quickens the brain activity : Maths boosts your brain activity and performing maths questions you are training your brain to be active and if your brain is doing calculations swiftly then you can do your other tasks also quickly as your brain is now trained to work faster be it a analysing the situation or a reflex action.

4.   To Adapt to technological change : Adaptation is one key functionality that a person can achieve by being good at Maths. Learning ability builds an approach in a style that person is ready for new technological change with an ease.

5.    Teaches patience and thinking approach: Doing Math also help a person to gain patience in life. While you are solving a mathematics problem and do it in multiple steps, you are patiently yet keenly working towards a solution with a positive approach and this enhances the way you look at the crisis situation and work on it in step by step manner with patience thus betters the thinking approach in life.

We all now understood that Mathematics is part of our life and embracing it with a positive attitude gives our life a lift. It is also important for parents and educators to imbibe the same faith in students who are early learners in this subject. Instead of showing how complex the world of Mathematics we need to showcase the students the ways Mathematics improves our brain activity and henceforth expands our learning ability and cognitive skills.

  1. Math is one of the important subjects. But usually kids don’t like it as they have a notion set in their mind that it’s hard. I am reading a lot about Cuemath these days and a few of my friends have already enrolled their kids into this program.

  12. When I was in school, our maths teacher would tell us that if you notice there will be difference between the people in the way they are sweeping the floor (from their love of math). The one who loves Maths will have a methodical approach, however the ones who don't like maths or are weak in this subject, will have a random approach. Not sure how true is that.

  14. Math is good to understand physical aspects, logical relations and designs. Yes it is important but best covers only 30% of brain that too left side one. IMO right side of the brain is much more critical for understanding holistic approach and creativity. Even technology uses brain science to develop awesome designs which are definitely not mathematical.
