Book Review: Nobody's Child by Kanchana Banerjeee

It has been long time that I had read a mystery thriller book and when Writermelon posted review opportunity of this book, I immediately picked this one. Let’s see the review how good the mystery held my attention.

Book Title:

Nobody’s Child by Kanchana Banerjee grips attentions of the reader from the title. It has lot to convey and opens many doors to the readers to guess right from the first page.

Book Cover:

A girl eyes is what one observes on the cover and behind the title one can see the mouth covered with a fingers. Cover reveals that this is a story of a girl in captive and indeed it is. So cover justifies with the plot.

Story Line:

A girl named Asavri wins a singing competition and is apple pie of a nation with her sweet voice, now she is an household name. She meets an accident immediately after contest and she is declared dead. Her close friend Avniel publishes a book named ‘I’m Nobody’s Child’ and gains popularity.

But after 2 years she appears in a disastrous state, being assaulted, mal-nutrioned and drugged on a railway station. Many people are tensed after her return, first is Avniel who rode to success on his friend tragedy. Kamini ,who is well to-do politician and also mother of runner-up Tanya who acclaimed the prize and singing contracts after Asvari death.

Asavri is in state of shock after returning and cannot face public, but keeps on murmuring Monty name often.

Is Monty assaulter or her protector? Who captured Asavri, and why she was kept alive after being so much of distress makes the readers to turn the pages and read chapter after chapter.

3 riders of Story Line for 3 years Story Line

There are 3 main characters in this story leading character Asavri, the writer/journalist Avniel and politician Kamini Pratap Singh.

Each chapter is well crafted with a point of view of a person and made easy for reader to understand who is speaking by naming the chapter with character name and year of event.  For example, chapter 11:  Avniel. NOW 2018.

Each character has shades to portray in story and is well crafted by the author.

Entire story is divided into 31 chapters and even the characters who have short role have a defined structure for reader to be clear in thought process.

Story starts from 2016 and stretches till 2019 where each character has a memory of past events.

Points where reader can loose interest:

Though I was glued to book and kept guessing the angels of the story as every reader would do there are few pointers where I would want author to stress more for more clarity in few areas.

Firstly, when the main culprit was known, nobody questions him the motive of his deed. Though few characters in the movie didn’t want the answers but I wanted. Because in thriller book, one needs to know the motive very clear after reading 30 plus chapters.

Secondly though the book is in English language, few dialogues are written in hindi language, so reader need to be bi-lingual to understand the depth of situations at times.

Writer is so creative in describing each detail so clearly that each scene is clear in readers mind, hope writer writes chapter names to add more drama.

Final Word:

Pick this book for mystery driven ride that will take you to countless emotion stations. Story of a girl that will make you pray for her and rise an urge to is she nobody’s child. The book will keep you glued to story and make you listen perspective of each character.
