City of Nine Gates by Pankaj Rajput with sub title ‘What did those sages realize that we still haven’t ‘ published by Notion Press is a profound book, lets see in detail what kind of realization author talks about in the title and what kind of gates we are going to unravel in this book.

The Plot:

The story starts with the conversation of two friends who are part of the excavation team of a 5000 year old structure. Gyan, an atheistic millionaire is always fascinated by such historic monuments and keenly observes the photos he clicked during the excavation. 

He opts to explore more about the massive monument that looked very different from the monuments known till date. He comes to know that this structure is the crown and the whole city is buried deep down below. It was the place, which was worshipped by Gods and is protected from the outside world.

 Gyan comes to know that he is the blessed one and is able to enter the divine city as he is there for the realization and liberation of his friend. On his way to the city Gyan comes across many sages who tell him that he is the chosen one and special messenger of god. 

• How Gyan finds his path to the city? 
• Is there a danger to Gyan?
• Who all comes to his rescue?

And what these nine gates are all about and whose liberation he was chosen is worth reading in the book.

Touch of Divinity:

• The author seems to have a good knowledge of Sanskrit language, as there is ample use of the Sanskrit proses, which helps Gyan in the story to find clues to reach the nine gates.
• There is a mention of Bhagwad Gita and the preaching’s.
• The names of all the characters are named after our body parts and the sense organs like Buddhi, Vritti, gyanindriyan and the Chakras.   

Missed to touch the Soul: 

• The author has taken a different take by traversing the human body in the form of City Of Nine Gates but the story somehow couldn't keep me glued. 
• The language used is not easy to understand and most often need to turn pages to the glossary that diverts the reader’s attention. 
• This book is only for them who has the knowledge of the Sanskrit language and has an inclination towards Vedic fiction.
• There are certain portions of the storyline, which is repetitive, and much elaborated which hinders its real essence.

Final Word:

The City of Nine Gates is the traversal of the character Gyan inside our different body parts. The sense organs are portrayed as human beings guarding the Nine important gates of our body. The book is definitely not a casual read but needs a lot of attention to understand the Sanskrit shlokas that takes the story forward. Pick this book if you are not in a hurry and love the Vedic philosophy.
