After reading the book I looked at the book cover again and realized that book cover can also depict a woman with background of sun rise. After all it’s a story of a strong girl Radha aka Radhika.

About the author

Sujata Parashar is a popular Indian novelist, short story writer and poet. She has written 7 books so far. ‘The Temple Bar Woman’ is her fourth novel.

Sujata holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights. In 2016 she was presented the prestigious Karamaveer Chakra Award- instituted by iCongo (instituted by UN) conferred to individuals who bring about positive social impact in the lives of people and planet.

Story Line:

Story is beautifully woven around a village girl Radha and how one traumatic incident makes her life tossed up completely. How her ambitions shifts from educating needy children to drag the culprits behind the bar. And how her avenge winds up for all wrong done to her. Rakshit, Habiba Bi plays a vital role to help Radha conquer her decision for justice.

Story is presented in a clever manner by letting audience know the end and then cleverly reaching the end in step-by-step manner.

Pointers that touched me:

Book starts with the description of characters in a tabular manner, each character is defined crisply, if reader gets confused in story at any point can easily refer to this page and move ahead instead of twirling the pages.

Characters are described in very detailed manner, which helps readers to connect well with characters so well.

Habiba Bi for an example is so well described that a reader can build an image of her undoubtedly and reasoning behind her moves is clear in readers mind.

Humanity has no particular address, and it is well essayed by the workers of Temple Bar. Author has skillfully narrated each character with utmost care and attention.

Political drama building in parallel to Radha’s life is done so effortlessly by author that one will not wonder Radha becoming a CM of the state in the story.

Genuine lines by girls in the brothel make one understand the harsh truth behind the flesh trade in the society.

Words in hindi like ‘Maaf kariyega’ ‘Dharamshaala’ ‘Saheb’ definitely catch an attention of a reader in the story line.

Got fixed in these points:

In a political drama, I got many times confused with the party names, though I had a first page to quickly correct myself.

Epilogue was the only for few pages where every turn and twist took place within a flash. Characters suddenly had plenty to say in few words, I wished to read more in the climax.

Was even looking for a reaction in words of culprit Vikram after he was caught in Radha’s aka Radhika’s planning and plotting.

Final Word

Temple Bar Woman is a thrilling story and gripping one to read. This book is so easy to read with its flow and characters building in every chapter that one will hardly feel to keep the book down.

It is a story of a girl that shows her daring in all aspects of life and ultimately beats all the odds that come in her way to achieve her aim.

Pick the book and you will be instilled with the power of girl that can change the world according to her terms and on her conditions. Excellent novel by Sujata Parashar.
