Grandparents - My eldest Friends

Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggers

Grandparents, whether they are maternal or paternal, they shower loads of love and hugs when you meet them. And many are lucky to stay with them.

My father was posted in a different state of India than our native state so summer holidays was only time we meet them. I hardly remember my paternal and maternal grandfather as they passed away in my childhood, but I must say both my grandmothers poured their heart on us. Making special dishes was one of their routine ways to make us feel special; and we as children always ate more than our appetite.

My paternal grandmother who is no more to bless us consciously always used to narrate mythological stories with enthusiasm. And she also enacted voices of all the characters and expression besides relive the child in them & we too loved listening to each detailing as they enjoy each moment of it.

One of my favorite stories is of devotee Prehlad and his father Hriankashyap. Each detail of story is so clear in my mind that I can narrate the ditto lines to my children. It used to be tough time for her to answer innocent questions, we used to interrupt a lot but with patience she explained every little aspect.

And another preferred topic was listening to the mischievous stories of our parents. It was always a fun session as we used to know the hidden secrets of them. Today on Grandparents day, my only grandparent who is around us to bless us is my maternal grandmother. Though I am not with her today but still I wish her good health.

One thing that I can’t stop adoring in her is that she never hides her grey, not that at this age she doesn’t color her past many years. When I asked her the reason she stated “One should accept the truth of life gracefully, and not to hide behind artificial stuff”. This essays her fearless attitude towards life that makes her look vibrant with all white hair too.

Today, I would love to cook, her special delicacies and serve her with her favorite tomato soup and fruit salad. And would love to listen few stories from her past as their experience is an immense bundle of wisdom. Though I am at distant today, I will make sure my cousins who are close to her make her day eventful. My grandmother is an avid reader, so books are my sure shot pick to gift her.

This video is so emotional, share your emotional stories related to Grandparents day.

  2. It is definitely a privilege for the children to have grandparents at home. How much they can learn, imbibe and just feel so loved in their presence. I lost my grandparents at an early age so have no memory of either of them. But I'm glad my kids have their grandparents to feel pampered with.
