Book Review : Open-Eyed Meditations by Shubha Vilas

Open Eyed Meditations is a self-help book which finds positivity in every aspect of life and help one to get over the difficulties of day to day life . As our blog also believes in this mantra this book was very good read. Here are few pointers from the book.

Book Cover:

Book cover is simple and portrays the human side face with multiple colors, which depicts the layers of thinking a person has. The book title “Open-Eyed Meditations” is catchy as meditation is always symbolizes closed eye thought process. The liner “practical wisdom to everyday life” upon the cover surely conveys the message of self-help book.

About the author:

Shubha Vilas holds a degree in engineering and law with a specialization in patent law. But in essence, he is an author, a motivational speaker, lifestyle coach, and a storyteller par excellence. Shubha Vilas also authored Ramayana – The Game of life Series books.

Contents: 

This book contains 64 chapters, where each chapter tells you about a different type of meditation. Chapter’s titles are very captivating and make one to read it quickly, for example “Can I embrace my Embarrassments” and “A Complaint against Complaining”. In prior example author strikingly describes the manner to deal with embarrassments taking Arjuna as illustration, whereas in Complaint chapter, author in very simple manner narrates example of various creatures.

Every segment teaches a lesson in striking manner that your soul is connected to it’s learning and brief note at end of every chapter makes the meaning of it more clear.

Few statements in the section leave a great mark in your heart and makes readers think in that perspective. For example “Appreciation is a meditation on the beauty of qualities and not faults in beauty”; statement from chapter ‘9 - The Magic Carpet for Relationships’ makes one think of actual meaning of appreciation in real life.
This book surely is an eye opener to many outlooks of life .

Hitch:

If one does not know about great epics Mahabharat and Ramayana, then reader is surely in a fix. As each meditation examples are based on characters of these epics.

This book should surely be one’s pick to keep oneself motivated. Reading each chapter a day can make one feel fresh and going in life. Read, absorb and execute each meditation technique mentioned beautifully by author Shubha Vilas. Such books can be read again and again to gain optimism in life.

  9. I didn't know there were so many forms of meditation. For someone like me who is a newbie at meditation this book might be a notch higher level, but I am sure those who practice media regularly will find it useful.

  16. The first thing that caught my attention is the title of the book, it made me really curious to know about the technique of open eyed meditation. But as you mentioned that one should know about the Ramayana and Mahabharata to understand the examples better, people like me who are not much aware are at a loss.
