Life and rules are like parallel sides of a road, one compliments each other so well that our journey is a smooth ride. But few think that they are burdened by following many rules. Rules should not be considered a burden, as they are meant to ease our day to day activities. Every house follows certain rules, which are set by elders keeping in mind the interest of each one in the family; house runs perfectly. And likewise in a country; if each one of us follow them everything around us would become easy to handle. A society without rules would be a complete mess.
For a few seconds imagine that all the rules and regulations just get vanished …...Phew....and all are free to do what they want to. You are free to do anything, yes anything…..the feeling itself brings smile to persons who are burdened by plenty of regulations.
But doesn’t it sound absurd to you. On one side its fine we can do what our heart wishes for, but just think if someone else wish doesn’t match with ours. If one person wants to celebrate an event and wants to play the loud music and party all night, and suppose that person turns out to be your neighbor and moreover you are not invited to party. All your requests for a quiet surrounding goes unheard, for a good and sound sleep and you can’t force them to do so; remember the world is now free of rules. UFF! Life would be more challenging. This was just an example. World without rules;…….a big NO for me.
You cannot deny the fact that rules are everywhere; place you live – home, place you study – school or college or even online courses, on your way (road), working place – office, recreation areas – park, malls. Even nature follows rules.

Regulations set limits for one and set your mind free to work within it. If limits were not a part of our life then setting ones extreme would be difficult. Adhering to rules regularly, end up becoming our habit; and few rules are so well set in our unconscious mind that we follow them blindly, as we are all aware that habits are sticky with each person. A rule is no longer a boundary but a protective wall.
Even a simple game of catch and throw ball has its rules; and it has its varied versions too. Setting rules for house or group or community or a society is quite a challenge. For example if one likes to use the common area of society for recreational purpose and other want it to use for plantation and someone else want to open a library. All causes are good; but which one to be given a nod? Decisions are taken keeping in
mind all factors and for the welfare of society. And when decisions are taken and conveyed every one cannot be happy with the same rule; it can be acceptable to one while others may have problem abiding to it.
Certain rules if not followed seriously, would be a risk to our life. For e g, safety rules which we follow while we travel, they are made to safe guard us from traumatic situations. And many of us follow rules to avoid punishment. In one way I feel it’s correct, if there is no penalty for not following particular rule then no individual will care to abide it. So be the one who respects law, regulations and constitution. You can set a good example and let others follow your path. Thinking what kind of change can a single person bring in society by following rules would be silly; as don’t forget that change is always initiated by one and followed by others.
Who knows you could be the next trendsetter.

@ Meenal
Rules are good if they are realistic and not too harsh on anyone.
ReplyDeleteYes practical rules only work for longer time.
DeleteYes, I agree. Rules make our life easy. But the first impression that they give is uff...restriction. discipline..or what not to do. But it's our outlook that can give us a clear picture.
ReplyDeletePerspective brings lot of difference to the rules too.
DeleteSome thought provoking lines. I find it hard to follow rules but I know to achieve all good, that its a manfdate.
ReplyDeleteMandate, yes at times and then later rules becomes our routine like as simple as brushing our teeth.
DeleteLife needs certain regulations to be in a particular form else we will be in a mess.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree Geethica, life would be mess if we were living without Rules.
Deleteah, tell me about it! I am rule follower! Even if it was in my school or office. Glad you wrote such a different yet important post.
